Midland Wire Cordage (MWC) was founded in June 1875 in Sheffield and moved to Birmingham in the same year. 85 years later, following sustained growth, the manufacturing facility needed to be expanded and, as this was not possible in Birmingham, the company moved to a purpose built factory in Redditch in August 1962. 40 years later having recently been purchased by Ormiston Wire of Isleworth, founded in 1793, the company again moved to a more modern factory unit at North Moons Moat Redditch.

Throughout these 130 years MWC has been manufacturing high quality wire ropes up to 24mm in galvanised steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, nickel and phosphur bronze as well as many differing bespoke customer designed ropes. In addition many assemblies have also been made over this period up to 25mm and MWC is now renowned for the quality and expertise that can be offered to customers wishing to have a complete made to order requirement. In the late 1960s a new initiative led to the creation of a manufacturing unit for heat exchanger tube inserts, an area that has grown steadily and which is now ready for additional growth in the new facility.
