The Security Rings are made from material compatible with the insert metallurgy, usually stainless steel and are suitable for use with most tubular exchanger header types, including plug type headers for air cooled heat exchangers.
In the case of the plug type header, the ring is sized such that it will pass through the plug hole, but not through the tube bore.
In the event of any doubt about their suitability for a particular application MWC-HTD Engineering Department are pleased to offer their advice.
When, for tube bore inspection or other maintenance requirement, it is necessary to remove the HTD inserts from the tubes, the ring can be collapsed to a size which will then pass easily through the tube by pulling the insert at the "eye" end with a hooked bar or rod.. The HTD insert can then be removed easily by pulling the "eye" in the same direction that the HTD insert was originally installed. In order to minimise the pulling strain on the "eye" always ensure that the pulling hook completely fills the "eye".
Once removed from the tube, the used Security Ring will normally recover its original size.
In the event that a ring is permanently damaged then prior to re-assembly, the HTD inserts can be fitted with replacement rings which are available from the address below.
