There is a series of information required in order to convert a request for a wire rope assembly into a piece of equipment. Our Sales Team are here to help but the process can be speeded up by the buyer having as much as possible of the basic data available when calling, for example:-
Can I send a sample of the assembly I want?
This is the best way of ensuring that we understand your requirements but we may still need some other information, such as Safe Working Load. Alternatively, a dimensioned sketch or drawing can be supplied.
How can I tell what wire rope diameter and construction I need?
The larger the diameter of the rope, the higher will be the safe working load and the higher the number of strands the more flexible will be the rope. If you don't know then tell our Sales Team how you intend to use the rope and the highest load you require to carry and they will usually be able to advise you.
What material should I use?
The material for rope and fittings is selected to suit the environment in which the assembly will be used. For damp or corrosive atmospheres more corrosion resistant material, such as stainless steel may be more suitable. If in doubt look at the site where the assembly will be used and check which materials give good service life and which do not. If in doubt talk to our Sales Team.
What is the difference between Safe Working Load and Breaking Load?
The rope or the assembly can be tested to destruction and the steady load at which it breaks is recorded as the Breaking Load. British and other standards will then allow this rope or assembly to be used at a proportion of this load by applying a safety factor of 5:1 to the breaking load. This is the Safe Working Load. This is a steadily applied load and does not apply to dynamic or shock loads.
How is coated wire rope specified?
The wire rope is sized according to the load and flexibility required and the coating requirements are then added, for example, 3.2mm dia. coated to 5.0mm dia. We also need to know the coating material, nylon, polypropylene PVC, etc. and the colour required.
How can I pay
We accept Visa, Mastercard and Switch as well as cheques. If you would like us to fax a pro-forma invoice to you, that's not a problem. We will send you a VAT invoice with your credit card receipt on the day of despatch of your order.
